Indian gooseberry, with its high vitamin C content, is considered valuable in diabetes. A tablespoonful of its juice, mixed with a cup of fresh bitter gourd juice, taken daily for two months will stimulate the islets of Lengerhand i.e.- the isolated group of cells that the secrete hormone insulin. It thus reduces the blood sugar in diabetes. Diet restrictions should b e strictly observed while taking this medicine. It will also prevent eye complications in diabetes.

Equal quality of amla powder, jamun powder and bitter gourd powder also make a very useful food remedy for diabetics. A teaspoonful of this mixture once or twice a day would be effective in checking the progress of the disease.

The tender leaves of the mango tree are considered useful on diabetes. An infusion is prepared from fresh leaves by soaking them overnight on water and squeezing them well in water before filtering it in the morning. This infused water should be taken every diabetes. As an alternative to infusion. Leaves can be dried in the shade, powdered and preserved. Half a teaspoonful of this powder should be taken twice a day, in the morning and evening.

Soyabean contains a fairly large amount of carbohydrate but there is little or no starch in it. It is, therefore, regarded as very suitable food for diabetic patient. Its carbohydrate produces heat and energy in the body without causing sugar to appear in the urine.
